Rear Lower Tonneau Panel - BD19340/4 - FHC - EARLY STYLE (1961-62)
This is the rear lower tonneau panel of a Series 1 E-Type FHC (2-seat Coupe).
This is the EARLY STYLE (1961 and 1962 Series 1 E-Type FHC)
There were two different construction methods for Series 1 FHC body shells, and so there are two versions of this piece for Series 1 E-Types:
The earlier cars have a larger license opening with a more rounded edge (top photo), and the drip channel is also made in two separate pieces that overlap each other... This piece is also mirroring the actual factory construction where this actually WAS a separate piece, and the dotted lines show where the factory leaded seam is...
NOTE: You will receive this with the drip channel as a separate piece, identical to the factory construction. That is why you see the vice-grips in the photo holding it on. It will be MUCH easier to position and align this to your body shell in two pieces than if we spot-weld them together here - that little bit of "wiggle room" will be a big help to you during assembly!
The later cars have a smaller license opening and a sharper edge (bottom edge), and on these cars, the drip channel is all one stamped shape with no seams. We do have a weld seam in our version of this piece inside the drip channel, but it is a VERY clean seam that can be smoothed out during the bodywork phase very easily. These later cars do NOT actually have this as a separate piece with leaded seams... Instead, the entire hatch opening is one giant stamping, and this piece is more of a "repair panel" than an actual reproduction of a panel that exists as a separate piece in the car...
This panel is required when rebuilding the rear end of a Series 1 coupe - OR - when converting a Series 2 coupe to a Series 1 tail...
